If you’re reading Kidd Commander for free, it’s because someone pitched in to keep it that way! My work is funded entirely by its readers donating to the project when they can, the bulk of which looks like monthly contributions of around 5-10 USD. This money pays for things like hosting costs, any equipment I might need, and helping to pay my bills so I can focus on KC full time. I think access to stories like mine is important for a lot of reasons, it’s certainly been beneficial for me to be able to read weird independent internet projects, and I try very hard to pay that forward. If that’s something you’d like to help with, ko-fi is the easiest way to do that (and the easiest way to browse the supporter rewards I offer), but there’s also paypal and Patreon. I highly recommend using anything but that last one.

Right now, Kidd Commander is just barely covering my rent– the next goal is to reach $1500 a month, to cover utilities and groceries and any monthly expenses that aren’t just basic housing. My newsletter is free for anyone who wants to join, but I primarily use it to communicate with my supporters across different platforms! I try to be transparent about what’s going on with regard to crowdfunding at any given time so if you’d like to see exactly how much I’m bringing in each month you can see it in the archive.

I can’t afford that…

If you can’t support my work financially, there are other options! The easiest and most important way anybody can help an independent creator is to get the word out. Share creator posts, make fanart and goofy posts about it on tumblr, write a review, recommend it when somebody asks for new things to read; word of mouth from excited readers is pretty much the only avenue for getting a project like this in front of anyone, literally anything you can do to help is a big deal. In a similar vein, being active in the community by hanging out in the fandom spaces, or contributing to things like the wiki or the TVtropes page, is massively helpful both for establishing a presence and keeping me motivated to work on this. I’ll be doing it either way, but it’s nice to have the company.
